Technical University of Sofia (TU – Sofia) is modern internationally recognised university. Established in 1945 it is the largest technological university in the Republic of Bulgaria. It provides comprehensive high quality education based on advanced research and innovation, in line with the latest technological advancements.
The Technical University of Sofia has 17 Faculties (based in Sofia, Plovdiv and Sliven), two colleges (based in Sofia, Botevgrad, Kozloduy, Kazanlak and Sliven) and two vocational schools (in Sofia and Pravets). The TU – Sofia is home to a diverse international community and welcomes talented students from around the world. There are currently over 11 600 students studying at the University with 9% international students from over 45 different countries. A number of leading Bulgarian and foreign enterprises rely on the university graduates to fill in key for various engineering, R&D and managerial positions.
The TU – Sofia is deeply engaged in diverse research and innovative activities. Fundamental and applied research is conducted in close association with industry, which creates opportunities for employment of university graduates and fosters their professional development. TU – Sofia is one of the Research Universities funded under the Recovery and Resilience plan, the procedure “Establishing of a network of research higher education institutions in Bulgaria”.
The research, academic, knowledge and technology transfer activities at the TU – Sofia are closely related. The scope of research and development done at the University is diverse and contributes to obtain scientific results in fields of interest for industry for the benefit of people and society in priority areas such as, but not limited to: Mechatronics and Microelectronics; Computer sciences, Connectivity and Cyber Security; Smart Systems and Artificial Intellect; Industry 5.0; Circular Economy, Clean Technologies and Resource Efficiency Management; Green Energy, Hydrogen Tech and Energy Storage; Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Health and Wellness Technologies; Space Engineering; Industrial Chemistry and others.
The University has been awarded the highest national institutional accreditation grade for two consecutive periods – 9.5 (on a scale from 0 to 10) for the period 2012 – 2018, and 9.56 for the period 2018 – 2024 by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency. It has been ranked 1500+ in Times Higher Education Ranking for 2023 and 2024.
The TU – Sofia occupies a leading position in the professional fields it provides training in. According to the Bulgarian Ranking System the Technical University of Sofia is ranked first in six professional fields: Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation; Telecommunications and Computer Systems and Technologies; Power Engineering; Transport, Shipping and Aviation and General Engineering..
For 2023 TU – Sofia for has been ranked by Times Higher Education by subject for Computer Science 800+; for Physical Sciences 1000+; and for Engineering 1000+.

Student council at Technical University of Sofia

The Students’ Council (SС), an organization established under the Higher Education Act, protects the mutual interests of students. It is comprised of representatives of full time and PhD students in the University General Assembly. The activities of the SC is financed by the Technical University; the resources are used to protect students’ social interests, pursuance of cultural, sports, scientific, creative and international activities. The Students’ Council plays a significant social role by expressing official standpoints on educational matters and topics on the social agenda, as well as organization of events of University nature.
Faculty of Management at Technical University of Sofia

The Faculty of Management (FM) is one of the largest and fastest developing faculties at the Technical University of Sofia. It was established in 1991 with the aim to respond to the growing interest in training which combines economic and management studies with extensive preparation in the field of industrial and information technologies.
Training at the Faculty of Management is based on the long traditions and the new developments at Technical University – Sofia. Training is done following curricula and syllabi developed in collaboration with leading European universities in order to follow modern trends in the field of economics and management, engineering and information technologies.
The Faculty has a highly qualified academic staff who have specialised at universities worldwide. The staff successfully combine teaching with scientific research work.

Students Innovation Hub at Technical University of Sofia

About the Competition
The Students Innovation Hub competitions are organized by the Technical University of Sofia since 2019.
Goal
The goal of the Hub competitions is to stimulate the students of the Technical University – Sofia and the students from the university’s schools:
- to develop and upgrade their potential,
- да създават иновации;
- to be creative,
- to join the scientific and research activities inherent to the university,
- to improve the relationship between the teachers and scientists at TU, university and schools students.
Участниците в конкурса представят проекти с оригинално решение на интердисциплинарни проблеми в областта на техниката, преодолявайки границите между академичните дисциплини. Конкурсът цели да насърчи участието на студентите и учениците във форуми на популяризиране на науката, национални и международни състезания и конференции, да провокира желанието им да създават иновации (положително се оценяват само иновативни проектни предложения), да бъдат конкуренти на своите връстници в България и по света. Не на последно място, конкурсите има за цел да засили интереса към висшето техническо образование и към възможностите за кариера в областта на науката и иновациите.
Participants are encouraged to develop projects that offer innovative approaches to solving technical or scientific challenges and have the potential to transform into utility models or patents following the successful realization of their ideas. This fosters an encouraging environment where students and scholars can express their creative potential and contribute to scientific and technological advancement through tangible innovations.

National Assembly of Students' Councils of Bulgaria

The National Assembly of Students Councils in the Republic of Bulgaria is the largest association of student youth, whose goal is to be a representative function of the over 235 thousand students studying in the country. Among the main priorities of the founders in forming this large-scale forum were the search for common ideologies in the formation of national student and youth policies.
The main goals of the National Assembly of Students Councils are the realization of the rights of student self-government; protection of the social interests of students in higher education institutions; conducting cultural, sports, scientific, creative, inter-university and international activities, which create prerequisites for increasing the capacity of knowledge and skills of student representatives in university centers throughout the country.
The National Assembly of Students Councils is the only legally established national body for protecting the rights and interests of students, cadets, postgraduates and doctoral students in accredited higher education institutions in the country. The National Representation of Student Councils consists of delegated representatives of Student Councils from all higher education institutions in Bulgaria.
Since its establishment, the National Assembly of Students Councils has strived to build active structures in all educational institutions in the country.
The main goal of the NPSS is to establish Student Councils as key and significant partners of higher education management in their quest to develop quality European education with a high degree of practical orientation. To this end, the organization works actively to create sustainable policies and capacity among Student Councils, encouraging them to act towards improving the quality of education, improving the teacher-student relationship, creating prerequisites for the growth of the country's young scientific potential in the form of doctoral students, increasing the degree of self-governance, adopting good practices in the field of mobility and the development of local career centers, etc.
One of the main priorities of the NPSS is to build and maintain an active dialogue with state institutions responsible for higher education policy in the country. The NPSS is a member and representative of the European Students' Union (ESU). The NPSS works and partners actively with the Ministry of Education and Science; Ministry of Youth and Sports; Ministry of Labor and Social Policy; Higher Education Institutions; National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation; Council of Rectors; National Trade Union "Higher Education and Science" at the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions; Bulgarian Industrial Chamber; Commission for Personal Data Protection and other institutions and NGOs.
The aim is for the position of the student community to be stated clearly and categorically in the various forms of debate in society on the problems of academism.

Federation of the Scientific-Technical Unions in Bulgaria

The Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria (FSTU) is a creative-professional, scientific-educational, non-governmental, non-political non-profit association of legal entities-professional organizations, registered under the Law on Non-Profitable Organizations, which includes engineers, economists and other specialists in the field of science, technology, economics and agriculture. FSTU is a co-founder and member of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations. FSTU is also a member of the organization of European Engineers (Engineers Europe) and European Young Engineers (European Young Engineers).
Main tasks of the FNTS:
To represent its members before state institutions, non-governmental organizations and commercial companies from the country and abroad;
To provide assistance and stimulate the creative activity, professional interests and achievements of specialists in science, material production and services;
To manage, maintain and develop the federative material and technical base; To promote global and our achievements in science and technology among the public, as well as the activities and achievements of the Federation and its members in our country and abroad.

ESTIEM – Local Group Sofia

ESTIEM ESTIEM (European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management) supports students in industrial engineering and management in their personal and professional development by combining technological knowledge with managerial skills. Using its network it establishes and encourages relationships among students all over Europe – 76 local groups in 26 countries.
